I recently bought two silent two-wire 4010 24 V fans to replace the existing fans (loud board and hotend cooling fans).

The ones I bought have two wires for power/ground, so no 3 wire PWM.

The new one meant for board cooling does not run if I plug them into the permanent 24 V pin (see skr 1.3 pins, top left). The second new one meant for hotend cooling works fine if plugged into the HE1, PIN2.4.

I tried exchanging them, but I can't get the first one to run.

Any ideas whats wrong or how to fix this?

My theory is that the fan needs some sort of PWM, which isn't supplied by the permanent 24 V pins, but only on the HE1 pins - does that make sense?!

  • $\begingroup$ No, it doesn't, especially if they're otherwise identical. Perhaps one of the leads has become disconnected on the motor PCB, or the polarity has been reversed. Other than that, the fan's probably dead. $\endgroup$ – towe Dec 19 '19 at 8:05
