Use this tag for questions that are concerned with the choice of wire for transporting certain electrical currents (for powering electronics, motors or transport a certain stream of information) or even mechanical power.

A wire consists of a single or multiple (a bundle), usually cylindrical, flexible strand(s) or rod(s) of metal. Wires (or cables) are used to bear mechanical loads, electricity or data signals. A wire consisting of a bundle of strands, as in "multistranded wire", is more flexible that single wires for the same wire area.

A standard wiring indication is used to identify the wire by using a gauge number to identify for various standard sizes.
